Is EMSzero Reliable or Effective? Pros and Cons of Buying an EMSzero Machine

Working here at M-Shape Beauty for many years, I've seen my fair share of beauty treatments come and go. From the "miracle" creams that promised to erase wrinkles overnight to the gadgets that claimed to melt fat with the power of a thousand suns, I've been around the block a few times.

And when I first heard that EMSzero is competing with EMSculpt, an American brand that’s fiercely protected by it’s creator, BTL Industries, I'll admit, I wasn’t surprised. That’s because the EMSzero factory in Guangzhou is infamous is China.  The factory is widely known here for illegally manufacturing protected classes of beauty machines without a license, as well as for infringing on other companies patents (both Chinese and  foreign owned  patents).  The owners have been sentenced to fines and prison sentences more than once.

That being said, EMSzero machines are widely advertised and very cheap compared to other EMS body sculpting machines in the market.  Therefore, many ask the question: is EMSzero actually reliable and effective or not?  That’s exactly why write this blog post - to help all of you answer this important question.

How does an EMZero Machine work and is it effective?

Just like EMSculpt, EMSzero uses electromagnetic coils in the treatment applicators.  But does EMSzero actually use high intensity focused electromagnetic technology (HIFEM) and does it have any positive effects?  We cannot really know.

There is absolutely no clinical data regarding the effectiveness of EMSzero.  The EMSzero factory in Guangzhou has conducted no clinical trials.  Furthermore, the EMSzero factory is officially closed to visitors.  Even sales representatives who work for the main trading company or any of the sub-companies of the organization are generally not allowed to visit the own factory.

So we don’t know if EMSzero is effective or not.  Everything is very secretive.  The reason for the secretive nature of the factory seems to be the their continued illegal manufacturing of HIFU and microneedling machines without a license.

Because there is no clinical data, we don’t know if the EMS energy is focused or unfocused, nor do we know how deeply the energy penetrates into the fat or muscle.  We also don’t know how many muscle contractions it causes per 30 minute sessions.  Sure there are a lot of advertisements using BTL’s numbers, but please keep in mind those are numbers borrowed from BTL (without permission of course).

It’s also worth noting that while EMSzero machines don’t have any radio frequency capabilities, the display screen of many models shows the ability to control the “RF”.  The fact that the RF function is falsely advertised to the user, is yet another reason for us to wonder if any of the advertised attributes or specifications are real.

Are there any safety risks or side effects of using EMSzero?

Now, I know what you're thinking: EMSzero is cheap so why not try it?  Maybe it works, and there is not much money to lose.  A new EMSzero machine is only $1000 - $5000, depending on which model.

While yes it’s true that EMSzero is relatively cheap, using the EMSzero machine does involve sending electromagnetic waves into the human body, and as mentioned above there are no clinical trials to prove whether or not the machine is safe.

Furthermore, EMSzero machines are not cleared by the FDA.  And according to the FDA US government website, “Electrical Muscle Stimulators that have not met FDA premarket requirements are illegal, and the FDA has not determined whether or not they are properly designed, manufactured, and labeled to provide reasonable assurance that they are safe and effective.”

We can all see that many EMSzero machines are illegally sold in the US everyday.   We can just look at the ads on eBay and Aliexpress to know this.  But just because they are for sale, doesn’t mean you should put your heath at risk or your spa customers health at risk by using one.

the FDA also expresses concerns about side effects, noting “FDA has received reports of shocks, burns, bruising, skin irritation, and pain...Some injuries required hospital treatment… FDA is also concerned because many of these devices have cables and leads. If those cables and leads do not comply with electrical safety standards, there is the possibility of electrocution by users and other household members.”

Are there any other disadvantages to using EMSzero?  Loud noise level and reliability

Is EMSzero reliable? You may be wondering how long an EMSzero machine will last before breaking down.   Well, my friends, that's exactly what we have been investigating recently.

I am sorry to break this to you, but it’s quite likely that your EMSzero machine will indeed break down within the first year.  We have been testing various EMSzero models in our laboratory, and the average time before an error message appears or the machine doesn’t turn on at all is about 3.5 months.

In our laboratory, we’ve also been investigating why is EMSzero so loud?  Other brands like EMSculpt Neo and EMShape Neo have reasonable noise levels.  The noise level of EMSzero is more than 85 decibels.  According to our research, there are several reasons why EMSzero is extremely loud.

The first reason is that the machine shape of EMSzero is not ideally designed and it causes unwanted noise to resonate and amplify, hindering overall performance.

The second reason EMSzero machine produces a loud noise is due to the use of low-quality internal parts.  And no sound-absorbing or sound-insulating material has been added to the source of the noise, resulting in a high noise level.

Conclusion

Essentially, yes EMSzero is indeed a non-invasive way to stimulate your muscles using magnetic wave energy.  EMSzero is advertised on EBay and Alibaba as a personal trainer for your body, but without the whole "sweating and grunting" thing.   It's advertised as like having a team of fitness experts working on you while you sit back and relax.

However, no one has any idea how deeply the magnetic waves are penetrating, how many muscle contractions it makes, or whether it’s effective.  Because there are no clinical trials, because EMSzero is not FDA cleared and may be dangerous to the human body, because the machine is easy to break down, and annoyingly loud on top of all this, of course we can’t recommend it.

So, if you're still on the fence about EMSzero, let me just say this:  EMSzero is the far from the real deal. And if you don't believe me, well, you can always try it for yourself.  But don’t say we didn’t warn you.  Turn up the “RF“, and depending on which model of EMSzero you have, you’ll feel for yourself there is no heat.  Open up the machine, discover there is no RF generator.  And hear for yourself how loud the treatment is.  But just be careful.
